About This Site

Motivation:

Having decided to start a new career in web development I thought, "What better way to kick it off than to upgrade the Goatrescue website"... let this be my sandbox and my showpiece, plus provide a service to the goat-loving world.

About me:

After a twenty-year career in business information systems -- most of it as an independent contractor in Silicon Valley -- I felt I would like to get back into hands-on development. As a business systems architect and project manager with a technical background in databases, learning php and creating web/database interfaces was a natural choice. There are a lot of talented web designers creating beautiful web sites who need someone to make the wheels turn behind the scenes. That would be me!

Credits:

I could never have learned what I needed to know to build this site without help. Last fall I took Jim Cook's Dominate Dreamweaver class. Along with his comprehensive 12-week course Jim Cook offered one-year's participation in his forum and a repeat of the course this spring, both of which I am continuing to enjoy. I also enrolled in Brian Wood's training course. For my php training I enlisted David Jackson, whom I continue to rely upon for help. His method of over-the-shoulder one-on-one support using Skype and Teamviewer, along with his course forum is extremely effective. Finally, John Musgrave, a personal friend and long-time associate in Silicon Valley, has been very supportive with his php, javascript and mySQL advice.
